William “Bill” Anthony Ott, Jr., 70, of Macon, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022. He was born in Macon, Georgia on February 26, 1952, to William Anthony Ott, Sr., and Elizabeth Frances Manning Ott.
Bill had a sharp mind, a quick wit, and was always ready with a bad dad joke that made you both laugh and cringe. A life-time Boy Scout, he had a passion for the outdoors. As a boy, he worked his way up to Eagle Scout with Troop 5 in Macon and later became an assistant Scoutmaster. He spent time traveling and backpacking around the world and learned to speak Spanish. An inquiring intellectual, he graduated from Mercer University with a degree in philosophy and minor in religion and studied Buddhism at Naropa University in Colorado. He loved to cook and spent most of his working career managing kitchens. Bill cherished listening to music, playing instruments, and going to concerts. He especially admired the music of Bob Dylan and the Allman Brothers. His greatest joy was being a father and grandfather and sharing his zest for life and adventurous spirit with his three children. A friend to all, Bill had a heart for helping others and worked as an EMT in Macon later in life.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Haulsey Ott and grandmother, Novarah Gibbs Manning.
Bill is survived by his children, Mary Novarah Mattiaccio (Pasquale) of Decatur, Georgia, William Anthony Ott, III of Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth Lillian Ott (Khalilah Karim) of Durham, North Carolina; grandchildren, Me’lony Brown and Joan Ott-Karim; brothers, James Warren Ott (Claire) of Atlanta, Georgia, John Manning Ott (Lisa) of Monroe, Georgia and Joseph Henderson Ott (Bonita) of Gainesville, Florida; sisters, Elizabeth “Bettie” Ott Negley (Cary) of Savannah, Georgia and Carolyn Ott Curran (Bill) of Penfield, New York; 10 nieces; 4 nephews; and 11 great nieces and nephews.
