Walter H. Lewis, Jr.

Walter H. Lewis, Jr., 89, of 778 Forest Ridge Drive, West, died Friday, November 21, 2014. Services will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00PM until 2:00PM. Donations may be made to Macon Lions' Club, 5987 Houston Road, Macon, Georgia 31206 or to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 152 North Crest Boulevard, Macon, Georgia 31210, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Lewis was predeceased by his wife, Martha N. Lewis, and a son, Walter "Little Walt" Lewis III. He was a member of First Christian Church, Macon Lions' Club and the American Legion. He was a former member of Georgia State Defense Force. For years, he had a place at Crescent on the Georgia coast, where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Lewis worked as a pharmaceutical representative with Ortho for many years before retiring and working as an independent sales representative. He volunteered with the United States Army in June 1943 at the age of 18, serving his basic training in Colorado in the ski patrol. In May 1944 he went to the South Pacific waiting on the invasion of Japan. After being discharged in 1946, Mr. Lewis returned home and was given his high school diploma. Mr. Lewis is survived by a sister, Martha Ann Boone, of Virginia; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
