Walter "Buddy" Lane, Jr.

Macon-Walter "Buddy" Lane, Jr., 61, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. Dr. Ben Haygood will officiate. Entombment will be in Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum. The family may be contacted at the residence and will greet friends on Friday from 7:00PM until 9:00PM at Hart's Mortuary. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 4406, Macon, GA 31208. Mr. Lane was a graduate of Lanier High School for Boys, Mercer University, and the Walter F. George School of Law. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta and Sigma Nu Honor Society. Mr. Lane was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia and the United States District Court. Buddy was a practicing attorney for more than thirty years, and for more than twenty of those years, he was a law partner with Tom Jarrell. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby Gladin Lane. Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Melanie Dixon Lane of Macon; sister, Zena Rebecca Jackson (Randy); loving children, Susan Thomas (Greg) of Macon, Kenneth McCook and John A.
