Macon-Mr. Walker Lee Jones, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Graveside services will be held at Macon Memorial Park on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 10:00AM with Dr. David L. Carter officiating. Visitation will be held at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon on Friday, November 14, 2008 between 6:00-8:00PM.
Mr. Jones was born in Americus, GA on September 5, 1930 to the late Ernest Lee and Julia Walker Jones. He is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Nellie Thigpen Smith Jones; three sisters, Julia Ruby Jones Holloway, Mary Louise Jones Oliver, and Naomi Jones Young; two brothers, Benjamin Franklin Jones, and Ernest Woodrow Jones.
He is survived by one daughter, Kay Smith Moore-Davis of Warner Robins, GA; one son, Willis Lynn (Nancy) Smith of Milledgeville, GA; one sister, Marie Jones Sears of Macon. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Monica Moore (Kevin) Smith, Mandy Moore (Darby) Montford, Marcie Moore (Seth) Fuller, Randi Davis, Morris (April) Smith, Joey (Cathryn) Smith and Megan Smith; nine great-grandchildren, Morgon and Sarah Smith, Lane and Marley Montford, Gunnar and Gracyn Fuller, Brandon and Walker Smith, and Grant Smith.
Mr. Jones was a native of Lumber City, GA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Young Harris College and served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones retired from the Southern Railway after 40 years. He was of the Methodist faith.
