Vernon Leon Barker

Macon- Mr. Vernon Barker, 77, of Macon, Ga. passed away Saturday August 27,2011. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Real Life Church on Gray Hwy. Burial will follow in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. Reverend Bo Turner will officiate. Mr. Barker was born in Bath, South Carolina to the late John Washington Barker Sr. and Annie Lee Marchant Barker. Vernon was a vibrant and outgoing person who made friends wherever he went. He was a very talented person who had the ability to light up a room with his jokes and story-telling. He will be missed dearly by all. In his younger years he and his family attended Swift Creek Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and held several positions. He was an 32nd degree Mason and in the past served as a member of the Gideons International. He was retired from Cameron and Barkley Company after 28 years of service. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Exelma Hollis, SC, Elise Powell, Langley, SC, brothers: Clarence W. Barker, Warner Robins, Ga., Ernest Barker, Warner Robins Ga., Horace Barker, Clearwater, SC, John Washington Barker, Greeenwood, SC. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Green Barker, by his children, Cynthia Andrews (Rickey), Forsyth, GA, Amelia Shultz (Jim), Demorest, Ga; son , Anthony John Barker, (Jeanie), Macon, Ga, five grandchildren: Blake Andrews (Sarah), Autumn Andrews Press (Tony), Maxwell Shultz, Anna Lee Shultz and Caleb Temples; brothers Harry Barker, Peltzer, SC, Douglas Barker, Augusta, Ga and sister Phoebe Buffett, Aiken, SC. Mr. Barker attended Shurlington Church of God where he served on various boards and taught Sunday School in the 70's and 80's and later enjoyed worshipping at Real Life Church.
