Tinsley Matthews

May 18, 1957 — March 10, 2009

Macon, GA - Tinsley Matthews, 51, died March 10, 2009, from injuries sustained from an automobile accident. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. Tinsley, a native of Macon, was a graduate of The Georgia Institute of Technology with an undergraduate degree in Industrial Management and a Masters of Architecture. He practiced architecture for 25 years, primarily in Macon, and most recently was a principal with DeLoach and Matthews Architects on Walnut Street. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his community, and his love of architecture. He enjoyed many years of coaching little league baseball at Vine Ingle and coached basketball at Vineville Methodist Church for several years. One of his proudest accomplishments was reaching the rank of Eagle Scout; he continued his love of Scouting with his involvement with Troop 170. Tinsley was blessed to have so many dear friends throughout his life. Nothing brought him more joy than being with his family and friends, cooking out and sitting by his big fireplace, laughing and talking the night away. He was a very content man who took great pleasure in very simple things such as working in his yard and cheering on the Yellow Jackets. He was predeceased by his father, William Cobb Matthews who also practiced architecture in Macon. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kate, daughter, Kathleen and son, Thomas who were his greatest source of joy. We already miss him so much. Survivors also include Tinsley's mother, Marguerite Baxter Matthews and sister, Marguerite Matthews Parker (Tim) of Macon, brother William Cobb Matthews, Jr. of Atlanta and sister, Tracy Matthews Lore of Ft. Lauderdale. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Following the burial at Riverside Cemetery, the family welcomes friends to their home on Overlook Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Boy Scouts of America, 4335 Confederate Way, Macon, GA 31217 or the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204 Register online at www.hartsmort.com Hart's Mortuary and Crematory on Cherry Street has charge of arrangements.
