Macon-Thomas Watson Poland, 86, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA. Interment will be at Macon Memorial Park. The Reverend Richard Forrester will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 5:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
Born in Jones County, Georgia, he served in WWII and later retired from the Air Force Reserve as Lt. Colonel in 1982. He retired from Civilian Service at Robins AFB, Georgia in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Hornyak. He was an active and dedicated member of Log Cabin Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Pearla Roberts Poland; two sons, Kenneth Poland (Janet) of Marietta, GA, and Terry Poland (Melissa) of Madison, GA; four grandchildren, Ashley Burns (Matthew) of Pendleton, SC, Shane Poland of Lafayette, LA, Amanda Poland of Nashville, TN, and Schiller Poland of Madison, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 1 Intrepid Square, West 46th Street & 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
