Thomas Alva Lavender, 65 passed away September 9, 2014. Friends and family will gather for viewing at Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Friday, September 12 from 6:00PM to 800PM. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 13 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary. Burial will follow in Ramah Baptist Church cemetery. Dr. Mark Grinsted will officiate. The family may be contacted at the Lavender home on Hwy 57 just inside Jones County. Mr. Lavender was born in Wilkinson County to the late Alva and Neila Mae (Peacock) Lavender. He retired from Imery's Kaolin Company after 37 years of employment. Thomas was a veteran of The United States Army. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Ann Schleuter and Sara Gwinett Holland. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debra (Brantley) Lavender; his children: Reggie Alva Lavender, Jeremy Chadwick Lavender, Geoffrey Thomas Lavender, and Neila Danielle Lavender; his sister, Ruth Elaine Lavender; brother, Lonnie Razz Lavender; two grandchildren, Victoria Alexis Lavender and Gage Mimbs Smallwood; and several nieces and nephews,aunts, uncles and cousins.
