Thomas Monroe Cox

November 8, 1922 — March 28, 2016

Thomas Monroe Cox, "Monroe," passed away after a very short illness on March 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Bellevue Baptist Church with the Reverends Jim Duggan and Joe Toney officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bellevue Baptist Church, 5925 Price Road, Macon, Georgia 31220. Monroe was born and raised in Macon, Georgia by the late Fannie Lou and Oliver Eugene Cox. He was a loving husband to the late Cleone Childers Cox of Roberta, Georgia until her death on March 17, 2010. They had been married 66 years. He was a devoted father to Angie C. Thigpen and Mike D. Cox, both of Macon. Monroe was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II where he received a purple heart. He loved fishing in his lake, playing with his dog, Remy, and cooking. He was best known for his pound cake. He loved his church, Bellevue Baptist, and his church family. Monroe leaves behind many great memories and tall tales for his daughter, Angie; and his son, Mike and wife, Vickie H. Cox. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Brad Defore and wife, Kim, Susan Defore, Thomas Thigpen and wife, Missy, Alicia Cox Record, and Michael Heath Cox and wife, Trinity; eight great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; one sister, Joyce C. and husband, Ed Judd; and one brother, Roy Cox. Monroe was preceded in death by sisters, Laura Lanier, Lillian Whalen, Maude Marshall, and Mary Brunson; and one brother, Oliver Eugene Cox, Jr., all of Macon. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
