The Reverend Leslie Milford Addison, 85, of Macon, passed away August 10, 2018. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Assembly, 6040 Watson Blvd, Byron, Georgia, 31008. Dr. Mark Rutland will officiate. The family will greet friends Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hart’s at the Cupola. Interment will be private at Macon Memorial Park.
The Reverend Addison was born and reared in Panama City, Florida. He received ministerial credentials with the West Florida District of the Assemblies of God in 1952 and was ordained in 1957. He served as an evangelist in our Fellowship from 1956-1967. He became a member of the Georgia District Assemblies of God in 1967 upon moving to Athens, Georgia. He and his wife, the former Joyce Carter of Copeland, Alabama, pioneered and pastored the First Assembly of God in Georgia’s University city for twenty-two years.
The Reverend Addison is a graduate of Southeastern University and Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. He did graduate work at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Southeastern University of the Assemblies of God in 1988.
The Reverend Addison served Southeastern University for many years as Alumni President, as a member of the College Board of Administration and Board of Directors. He served as Chairman of the College Board of Administration and Board of Directors from 1997-2003.
The Reverend Addison served the Georgia District of the Assemblies of God as Presbyter, District Secretary, Assistant Superintendent (14 years) and from 1989 to 2003 as the District Superintendent. He served as a member of the General Presbytery of the General Council of the Assemblies of God and on various General Council committees.
The Reverend Addison’s ministry has been varied and far reaching as pastor, educator, district official and evangelist. He has been speaker for revivals, camps, conferences, and minister’s retreats. Reverend Addison is predeceased by sisters, Mildred Atkins and Linda Mead.
The Reverend Addison is survived by his wife, Janet Joyce Addison of Macon; children, Alicia Craft (Rex) of Macon, Andrea Branch (Scott) of Bishop, Georgia, and Michael Addison (Lela) of Macon; 8 grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Lois France and Janice Temples.
