Terrell Norman “Terry” Hawes

Terrell Norman “Terry” Hawes, 81, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, at Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola.   The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Jay’s Hope in Macon.

Son of the late William Norman Hawes and Martha Atchison Hawes, Terry was born January 25, 1942, in Norwood, Georgia. He graduated from Lanier High School and furthered his education at Mercer University. His commitment to his country was evident through his honorable service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Post-military, Terry returned to his family business, Macon Vending Service, where he was the former owner for over 50 years.

A passionate sports fan, Terry's enthusiasm for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and the University of Georgia Bulldogs was matched only by his love for NASCAR, and his admiration for icons Pete Rose and Elvis Presley.

Terry is survived by his children, William “Terrell” Hawes (Nikki) of Haddock, Georgia, Kelly Hawes Powers (Mark), of Macon, Georgia, Robert Hawes (Cheryl) of Milton, Georgia, and Steven Hawes of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren: Stephanie Hawes, Tiffany Spivey, Tyler Pippin, Case Hawes, Tucker Hawes, Travis Hawes, Kyle Hawes, and Evan Hawes; four great-grandchildren: Hannah and Trace Spivey and Kyler and Collins Hawes, all who adored their Poppy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph “Joe” Hawes, and former wife, Louise Hawes.
