Macon

Sylvia went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 29, 2025.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating.  The family will greet visitors following the service. The burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Rd., Macon, GA. 31210.

Sylvia, daughter of the late R. C. Arnold and the late Mary Grace Arnold, was born October 1, 1936, in Albany, Georgia.  She was also predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert Matthew “Matt” Hunter as well as her stepfather Herbert Borleis, Murdoch, Fla. She was co-owner of White and Lavender Pest Control and served as a secretary for this firm for many years.  Sylvia served as a secretary at the YWCA in Macon while attending GA-ALA Business School.  At 4 years of age, she enjoyed singing “Jesus Loves Me” while swinging on her backyard swing set.  A neighbor suggested to Sylvia’s mother to enroll her in singing lessons.  When she was 13 years old, she had her own hometown radio show for which the listening audience phoned in song requests.  While attending Fitzgerald High School she won several awards singing at music festivals and state competitions. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir at First Christian Church, Macon and Ingleside Baptist Church, Macon.  Sylvia was well known for the many weddings she and Hines Causey sang together in middle Georgia.  She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church for 30 years and was a former member of First Christian Church, Macon.

Sylvia will be greatly missed by her surviving family members including, her son, Mark Hunter (Yvonne); granddaughter, Kelly Hunter Hardy (Jonathan); great grandchildren, Karlie, Willa Kate and Ryan; sister, Fran Wood (Jim) of Bradenton, Florida; niece, Angela Hardin (Jerry) of Fitzgerald Georgia; nephews, Carl (Regina) Harbuck of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Alan Harbuck of Cocoa, Florida, and Jeffrey Wood (Angela) Dunkirk, MD..
