Sybil Townsend, 76, of Athens, Georgia, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021.
Sybil was a career Special Education teacher. She was also dedicated to taking care of her handicapped daughter. She is known as having a big heart and being “larger than life” to all who knew her. She has remained faithful with her nine high school friends who call themselves the “Chill Girls” and always kept their “Girls Weekend Trips” an annual event. Covid did not deter them from their gatherings. They began weekly zoom meetings which occurred every Thursday. She was loved for her infectious laughter and positive attitude.
She had a special bond with her sisters, and she often referred to a brother-in-law as the “Tractor Stud,” which was typical of her humor.
Sybil is survived by her sisters, Deborah Townsend of Virginia and Jessica Rhodes of California; three children, Eric LaBorie, Erin O’Neill, and Joanne LaBorie; her step-father, George Rock; and several nieces and nephews. She also had a huge heart for animals and she loved her three cats and two dogs, which have been placed in loving homes. Her family requests that donations be made to Athens-Clarke County Animal Services in honor of Sybil Townsend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lent Townsend and Reta Anna Brough; and her sister, Julie Townsend.
