Susie Lyles

d. April 22, 2009

Susie Avery Lyles passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. Reverend Warren Jones will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Mrs. Lyles, devoted wife of Ben Lyles, cared for her husband 9 years after his diagnosis of Alzheimers Disease. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was the loving mother of Patricia Sawyer (Ralph Hopkins) and Gail (Dan) Johnston. She was a beloved Mimi to her four grandchildren, Deborah Horton, Mark (Cheryl) Sawyer, Scott (Deana) Sawyer of Macon and Lisa Johnston of Bradenton, Florida and her 6 great grandchildren, Brandon Horton and Melissa Holbrook, Chelsi, Kyle, Shea Sawyer and Seth Conner. Mrs. Lyles was one of ten children and was preceded in death by three brothers, Buck, Henry and Arthur Avery and five sisters, Sally Cain, Irene Mitchell, Pauline Cleghorn, Mildred Brooks and Martha Yaughn. She is survived by one sister, Betty (Bobby) Causey. Mrs. Lyles is survived by her faithful dog, Lady. Susie Lyles was a wonderful role model for giving of herself to others. She cared for her parents (Joseph and Maude Kitchens Avery), her in laws (John and Minnie Lyles), her neighbors (Ozzie and Harriet Barrentine) and many more friends during her life time. She was a frequent visitor of Eastview Nursing Home. She visited residents and brought them treats just to bring a smile to their faces. Susie was a fabulous cook. Every Sunday she lovingly prepared a sumptuous meal to serve her family. This was one of the many ways that she showed her love to her family. She was a wonderful gardener. Her yard was always surrounded with beautiful flowers. Susie was the true matriarch of the family. The Lyles family wishes to thank her caring neighbors, Carolyn (Steve) Baker, Sherrie and Junior Martin for helping our mother until she was no longer able to remain at home. We wish to thank her physician, Dr. Roberta Andrews, her staff, Carolyn, Jessica, and Samantha, Mother's sitters, Mary Stanley and Barbara Grier. Many thanks to daughter, Patricia, for the care that she gave which allowed our Mother to remain at her home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made to United Hospice, 6060 Lakeside Commons Dr. Macon, Georgia 31210, whose support and care of our Mother is greatly appreciated. Friends may sign the online register at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street has charge of arrangements.
