Susan Palmer Heifferon

Macon

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Palmer Heifferon, who left us far too soon at the age of 50, following complications from an infectious disease.

Born in Macon, Georgia, Susan was the daughter of Richard Palmer, Jr. and Connie King Palmer. She was a proud graduate of First Presbyterian Day School (1994). She earned her Associate of Arts degree in Equestrian Studies from The University of Findlay in 1997 and later graduated from Colorado State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Equine Science.

While living in Colorado she worked at several ski resorts before returning to Macon to teach riding and horsemanship lessons at Wesleyan College’s Equestrian Center. During that time, she also began a part-time position at ComputerLogic, Inc., that soon evolved into a 20-year career as a Software Support and Training Specialist, where she built lasting relationships and made a meaningful professional impact.

Susan possessed both artistic talent and a servant’s heart. Her gift for photography grew from a personal passion into a professional pursuit. Through her lens, she captured weddings, graduations, sporting events, animals, and quiet everyday moments; preserving memories that her family and friends will now cherish even more deeply.

She was the heart of her family. The youngest in a family of boys and her mother’s devoted sidekick, Susan was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin. She was a devoted wife whose partnership with her husband, Ben, was rooted in love and laughter. As a mother, she was fiercely loving and unwavering in her support, guidance, and affection. Her sons, Palmer and Colton Eddge, students at Academy for Classical Education, were her greatest joy and pride. She stood beside them at every milestone, every challenge, and every victory.

She loved gathering people together, whether cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, following NASCAR and her favorite Georgia drivers, attending concerts, planning family trips, or organizing the cherished annual Palmer Family Christmas. Her infectious laughter and sweet smile made everyone feel valued. Her friendships were lifelong and genuine.

Susan had a deep love for animals. As an early equestrian rider, she formed lasting bonds with the horses she cherished. Whether caring for her own dogs and cats or supporting animal rescue causes, her home was always open to four-legged companions in need.

Though her time with us was far too short, her impact is immeasurable. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered in the jokes she told, the laughter she sparked, and the comfort she gave. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will continue to live on in her children and in everyone whose life she touched.

Susan is survived by her husband, Benjamin Heifferon; her sons, Palmer and Colton Edge; her parents, Rick and Connie Palmer; her brothers, Richard Palmer (Lori Tift) and Matthew Palmer (Brandi Hartness); her nephews, Griffin, Andrew, and Anson Palmer, and Keith Hartness; her nieces, Tift Palmer Wallace (Swep), and Callaway and Mary Corbitt Hartness; her aunts, Maureen Palmer McCullough, Diana Palmer Rodgers (Jim), and Margaret Palmer (Casey Fasciano); her uncle, Davis King, Sr. (Donna); and her cousins, Beth Sillen (Peter), Amy McCullough, Brandy Topping Duvernet (John), Davis King, Jr., and Ashley King.

The family will hold a memorial and celebration of Susan’s life on Thursday, March 5th at 2:00 p.m. at The Society Garden in Macon, followed by a reception. See below for directions.
