Susan Linda (Chubak) Perkel passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from complications related to Lewy Body Dementia. She was 80 years old.
Susan was born in New York City to Professor Benjamin and Sydell Chubak. She is a graduate of Weehawken High School and received a degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. After a brief career in broadcasting, Susan married Dr. David Perkel in 1965 in Newark, New Jersey. Susan was a constant partner with her husband, working alongside him to manage his medical practice in Oakland, New Jersey, as she raised her three sons. Susan and David were inseparable and their love and devotion to each other set an example for their children to live up to. Susan valued education and taught honesty, truthfulness and integrity to her kids; she was most proud to see her sons continue to raise their own children in this legacy.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, David; their three sons, Jonathan Perkel (Lilibeth) of Manhattan, Jason Perkel of Goshen, Connecticut, and Joshua Perkel (Natalie) of Macon, Georgia; her younger siblings, Janet Sutton (Bill) of York, England, and Charles Chubak (Patricia) of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by her seven adoring grandchildren, Aaron Perkel of Macon, Sophie Perkel of Connecticut, Abigail Rose Perkel of Macon, Lillian Perkel of Connecticut, Alexis “Lexi” Perkel of Manhattan, Benjamin Perkel of Macon and Elizabeth “Betty” Perkel of Macon.
As per her wishes, Susan will be honored by family with a private graveside ceremony at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. Friends will be greeted at David’s home following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that well-wishers contribute in Susan’s honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association: https://www.lbda.org/donate/.
