Sue Mills, 72, of Macon, Georgia went to her forever home in heaven on Saturday, March 26 after an unexpected accident.
Born Elizabeth Sue Giles on April 9, 1949 in Fort Valley, Georgia to Wallace and Nell Giles, Sue grew up in Centerville, Georgia and graduated from Perry High School in 1967. Her senior year, she was captain of the girls’ varsity basketball team and elected a member of the homecoming court.
After high school, she attended business school at Georgia-Alabama Business School.
She married the absolute love of her life, Bobby Herbert Mills, on December 9, 1967. Their life together was an incredible love story. Bobby and Sue were truly best friends and partners in life. Their motto, “Always hold hands and stick together” was lived out every day.
After marrying, they moved to Macon, Georgia where Sue worked as a bookkeeper and as a stay-at-home-mom after the births of her two sons. For the fifty-four years of their marriage, they called Macon their home.
Although her life on this earth was cut short, Sue had many accomplishments during the time God gave her. For many years she and Bobby were avid runners, cyclists, and tennis players. She completed a marathon in 1986, placing second in her age division.
Additionally, she loved woodworking, sewing, and various home projects. With Sue around, rooms in her home were rarely safe from receiving a fresh paint job, new flooring, or shiplap added to the walls.
Bobby and Sue loved to travel and spent many years getting their passports stamped in foreign nations. Together they visited over fifty different countries. Among their favorite was a trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel, where they were able to view the land of the Exodus and the significant sites of the Holy Land.
One of her greatest passions in life was being “Ahmama” to her four grandchildren. She doted on each of them and spoiled them rotten. Every time a kid took a trip to Ahmama’s house, they had to come home and immediately unlearn the privileged lifestyle to which they quickly became accustomed.
Most importantly, Sue was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending First Baptist Church of Centerville, Georgia. For the last fifteen years, she has been an active member of Northway Church in Macon, serving for many years as a volunteer in the preschool ministry. She and Bobby were active members of a Connection Class and a Home Team. Sue dearly loved her church friends and spent many hours with them in Bible study, fellowshipping, eating, and celebrating birthdays.
Sue was preceded in death by her father and mother, Wallace and Nell Giles, and her sister, Ouida Giles Shelnutt.
Sue is survived by her husband, Bobby, of Macon; her two sons, Kevin (Katie) and Aaron of Macon; her four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Charlie, and Maya, of Macon; and her niece, Tammy O’Hara of St. Louis, Missouri.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 1PM at Northway Church, with the Reverend Phil Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in her memory to the Faith for the Future Fund at Northway Church.
