Stewart Lee Mullins, age 41, died suddenly this week at his residence in Macon. His body was found on Wednesday morning by his step-father who dropped by to check on him Lee had not answered his phone after several tries. Son of the late Linda Lee Roberts House and Homer Stewart Mullins of Macon, he attended high school at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA, Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, Stratford Academy in Macon, GA and Aspen Academy in Provo, UT from which he graduated in 1987. He pursued his undergraduate degree at Colorado Mountain College and Unity College in Unity, Maine where he earned his BS Degree in Outdoor Recreational Business in 1998. He also attended Argosy University in Atlanta where he was awarded a Master's Degree in Counseling in 2001. Among his many interests in life, there was one that stood above all the rest: his 5 year old son, Obediah, whom he adored. He seemed to keep track of time by the proximity of when he had last seen Obe until he was seeing him again. His foremost goal in life was to be a role model for Obe. Obe's mother, Charity Jones of Copperhill, TN, considered Lee an essential and equal partner in Obe's upbringing; together they nurtured and gave him many "life tools" to make of himself a fine young man fully capable of being a role model for his own child in the years to come. Running a close second to Obe was Lee's mother, who preceded him in death by some 2 years. He considered his mother, the late Linda Roberts House, as being as much a soul mate as she was his mother and indeed it appears from everyone who knew them that she felt the same way. Another of Lee's interest was music of all kinds. He played a multitude of stringed instruments, especially those associated with Blue Grass music. He wrote and performed his own music solo or in groups that he formed. An indispensable part of his approach was the ability to record his music which depended on the availability of a home-built home recording studio which he often set up in his home wherever that might have been. Last was his love of the outdoors which was fostered in large part by his involvement with Outward Bound which he attended multiple times in different parts of the country which offered exposure to various terrains and climates. Lee relied on his knowledge and talent in this area as a means of teaching skills to master difficult situations and boosting confidence in his young clients. The job Lee enjoyed the most and held the longest was his position at the Georgia Outdoor Wilderness Program in Helen, GA for teenagers at risk of incarceration or institutionalization. He also worked for other such organizations in the private sector and was described by one of the owner/operators as having "a special gift" for reaching and calming kids in this category who otherwise might be unavailable for treatment. After some period of unemployment, Lee recently accepted an offer of full time employment as a counselor with River Edge Behavioral Health Center in Milledgeville. Set to begin on Monday of this week, Lee was eager to get started on this new chapter of his life which was cut short by his untimely death.
