Stephen Carl Sweckard

April 12, 1939 — July 17, 2011

Macon- Stephen Carl Sweckard, 72, died Sunday, July 17, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00AM at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with Dr. Derek McAleer and the Reverend Jimmy Towson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Historical Cemetery, North Gate. Visitation will be from 5:30PM to 7:30PM on Tuesday at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Mr. Sweckard was the son of the late Lester Thomas Sweckard and the late Velma Hess Sweckard. He graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri and from the National School of Aeronautics. He enjoyed working for Delta Airlines for 33 years. Mr. Sweckard was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church, Seekers Sunday School Class, Men's Prayer Breakfast, Good Timers, and West Macon Kiwanis Club. In addition to country music of which he had a vast knowledge and collection, he loved fishing, bowling, volunteering, traveling and studying history. His volunteer experiences included Jarrell Plantation where he was chosen Volunteer of the Year, Red Cross, Methodist Home for Children and Youth, and Coliseum Northside Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Hummel Sweckard of Macon; daughters, Amy Roberts (Glen) of Leander, Texas, and Tara Sweckard of Aspen, Colorado; stepdaughters, Karleen Reynolds (York) of Snellville, Georgia, and Marla Weaver (Ron) of Bethlehem, Georgia; grandchildren, Callie Reynolds, Christian Reynolds, Mallory Weaver, Ridley Weaver, Rebecca Roberts, and Mitchell Roberts; brothers, Frank Sweckard (Sherry) of Springfield, Missouri, and Les Garland Sweckard of Miami Beach, Florida; brother-in-law, A.B. Hummel of Macon, Georgia.
