Stephanie Dawn Macon

October 30, 1969 — May 23, 2024

Macon

Stephanie Dawn Macon, 54, of Macon Ga, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024.

Stephanie was born on October 30th, 1969 in Wichita Falls Texas. Her family moved back to their home state of Georgia while she was still very young, so Stephanie spent almost all of her school years at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, Ga, where she graduated in 1987. Stephanie continued her education at Georgia Southern University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

After graduation, Stephanie continued to work for many years in the Retail Management career field that she loved so much with several retail chains such as Belks, Dillards, Reeds Jewelers, and Chico’s, where she still holds a part time position because she loves that job and the people that she works with. However, Stephanie found her most fulfilling career 10 years ago when she accepted a position in the administrative offices of the Methodist Home for Children and Youth. As a lifelong United Methodist growing up at Riverside United Methodist Church, Stephanie had always loved and supported the mission of the Methodist Home. When she got the opportunity to work there, she knew that this was God providing a way for her to serve children in need. After a few years working in administration, she decided that her calling was to work directly with the children and youth as a Foster Care Case Support Worker for the Methodist Home’s Hope Foster Care and Adoption ministry, helping foster parents and foster children and youth find placement and get the help and resources they need to be successful as a family unit. She also facilitated many families along the journey from foster care to full adoption. Through her work with Hope Foster Care, she has enriched many young lives and made an impact on many families.

Stephanie has been a member of the Methodist Church since birth, spending her childhood at Riverside UMC, college days at Pittman Park UMC in Statesboro Ga, then Mulberry St UMC when she moved back to Macon, and finally her church home, Forest Hills UMC, where she is a regular member of The Bible Project Sunday School Class. Stephanie loved God and wanted to serve him with her life. She went on several mission trips to other countries and always sought to serve God’s children in need.

For most of her life, Stephanie has had a passion for Baseball, and primarily for The New York Mets! For many years she traveled to Tampa Florida every spring for Mets Spring Training, where she met the one true love of her life, Mets catcher Mike Piazza! Her most prized possession was a picture of her posing with him at an autograph signing table at spring training. Her darkest day, was the day that the Mets traded him to the San Diego Padres... but she still never gave up on her Mets and is still their biggest fan!

Stephanie was also a fitness enthusiast, spending several days a week at her Crossfit gym. She was very proud of her accomplishments at the gym and encouraged others with her spirit.

Stephanie was predeceased by her mother, Mary Claire Macon, and her beloved Grandparents, Hal Hunter Macon and Marion Watkins Macon, all of Macon, Ga. She is survived by 3 cousins, Beverly Woods Wright and Brenda Wright Chalker of Marietta Ga, and Alexandrea Buford of Macon Ga. She also leaves behind her most loyal companion for 16 years, her precious dog Matilda.

Stephanie was the last surviving member of her immediate family and has very few distant relatives left, but she surrounded herself with chosen family in every aspect of her life. From her Sunday School Class, to her Gym, to every job that she ever had, she still has deep personal relationships with many of her friends, some that have lasted for more than 35 years!

A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held on Friday, May 31st at 10:00 am in the Ministry Center of Forest Hills Church, 1217 Forest Hill Rd, Macon Ga. 31210, followed by a short graveside service and interment at Macon Memorial Park on Mercer University Dr in Macon.
