Stanley Kane Putnal passed away Saturday, April 3, after a courageous four year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Stan was born in Macon, GA on September 24, 1957 to Mavis Purvis Putnal and the late Stafford Harding Putnal. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Kay, his son Stanley Kane Putnal, Jr., his twin daughters Anderson Lee Putnal and Clark Harding Putnal, his mother Mavis, father and mother-in-law Guy Clark Fussell and Clarice D. Fussell, his brothers Rex Harding Putnal (Gayle), Stephen Stafford Putnal (Kay), Gary Scott Putnal, Gregory William Putnal (Wade), sister Zeta Putnal Rowntree (David), sister-in-laws Pam (Ken) Jordan, Susan (Robert) Gavin, brother-in-law Guy Clark Fussell, Jr. (Vicki), his companion and buddy Beau (a black lab), many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Stan was an accomplished free-lance artist and his caricatures and paintings will be cherished forever. He worked at Ocmulgee Arts for many years where he focused his artistry on restoration. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and beach enthusiast. His quick wit and smile was a gift he shared often with those who knew him best.
Stan was a hard worker and never let his illness get him down. His love for the outdoors and his artistry was evident in his home and yard. During his illness he made many trips to the Myeloma Institute in Little Rock, Arkansas and brought joy to the patients and staff with his big smile and big heart. While in Little Rock he enjoyed drawing pencil sketches for gifts to the doctors, nurses, and Myeloma patients.
He attended First Presbyterian Day School and Central High School. He played on the 1975 Central High School State Championship Football team and he received a football scholarship to Troy State University. He graduated from The Portfolio Centre in Atlanta, GA where he was awarded a gold medal in Fashion Illustration.
Because Stan was so appreciative of the Christian friends who have helped educate his son and daughters, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Day School to help change the world for God's glory. First Presbyterian Day School, 5671 Calvin Drive, Macon, GA 31210-8099.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Hart's at the Cupola. The family will greet friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Monday at Hart's at the Cupola. The family may be contacted at 174 Wesleyan View Drive.
