Skip Casey Korson, age 85, entered into eternal rest peacefully October 10, 2009. She was born November 13, 1923 in Montgomery, Alabama. In fighting a battle with Alzheimer's disease she suffered a fall incurring a brain injury that led to her death. Skip was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Patrick T. and Emily G. Casey, brother, Thomas P. Casey, sister, Patricia Casey Palmer, and ex-husband, Lawrence J. Korson. Skip was a life long journalist winning many awards for her writing. She loved interviewing people and telling their stories. She especially loved writing about her grandchildren and never missed a special birthday column. She wrote for local papers and magazines and in Alabama, New York, South Carolina, and her beloved Spain. She was a renowned world traveler and traveled abroad often. She had visited every continent except Antarctica. She loved sharing her travels with slide shows to club meetings and schools and in her column, "On the Go with Skip Korson". She was very involved in civic clubs and community events in Warner Robins for over 30 years. She had taught Sunday School, was a Girl Scout leader, substitute school teacher, and was a board member of various groups she supported. She retired from the Public Affairs office at RAFB to be nanny to her granddaughter, Casey for two years. She loved helping people and even helped her fellow residents and friends at Antebellum Grove the last few months. She will be helping medical students in her death by her body donation to Mercer University School of Medicine. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She also was a lover of the fine arts. She was a season ticket holder of the Grand Opera House and attended concerts at the Macon Symphony Orchestra. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends; daughter, Emily (Gene) Bowden, Warner Robins, GA; son, Patrick J (Kirsten) Korson, Mount Pleasant, SC; sister, Martha Rose Casey, Montgomery, AL; brother, Edward G(Rosemary) Casey, Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Emily Casey Bowden, William Harris Bowden, Warner Robins, GA, Hannah Ruth Korson, Cadence Elizabeth Korson, Mount Pleasant, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews and very special friend, Eva Haynes, Warner Robins. A celebration of her life will begin with a rosary and visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warner Robins, GA 6:30 pm Thursday, October 15, 2009 and funeral mass 11 am Friday, October 16, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warner Robins, GA.
