Shirley Kemper Roobin

Macon- Shirley Kemper Roobin, 83, of 101 Covington Place, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 11:00AM at William Wolff Cemetery with Rabbi Uri Goren and Rabbi Laurence Schlesinger officiating. The family may be contacted at the residence. A native of Savannah, GA, Mrs. Roobin was a Dean's list graduate of Duke University in 1949. Mrs. Roobin was the daughter of the late Max Kemper and Lena Nicholson Kemper. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-two years, Dr. Avrom Roobin, and by her brother, Herschel Kemper. She was a member of Temple Beth Israel, Congregation Sha'arey Israel, Macon Chapter of Hadassah, and Beth Israel Sisterhood. Mrs. Roobin served two terms as president of the Macon Chapter of Hadassah, and she served as president of the Macon Federation of Jewish Charities. Mrs. Roobin was the recipient of the Hadassah National Leadership Award. She was a member of Idle Hour Country Club. Mrs. Roobin, known lovingly by her grandchildren as "Moppy", is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Mike Bashuk of Macon and Gayle and Mike Bullington of Cordele; grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Todd Goodman of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin, Edward Bashuk of Oakland, California, Leslie Bashuk, Taylor Bashuk and Richard and his wife, Shaw Bullington, all of Macon, Kelly and her husband, Brian Wolk, and Lauren Bullington and her boyfriend John Edwards, all of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Brady Goodman of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin and Cameron, Porter and Graham Bullington, all of Macon; nephews, Max Kemper and Kevin Kemper, both of Savannah; and many wonderful, special relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Macon Chapter of Hadassah, 506 Wesleyan Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210, Temple Beth Israel, 892 Cherry Street, Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210, or the Mayo Clinic Hematology Department, in care of Dr. Morie Gertz, 200 First Street, S.W., Rochester, MN 55905.
