Shirley Harrell Davidson

Shirley Harrell Davidson died at home on Thanksgiving, November 25, after a full day of home-cooked food, cheerfulness, and lively conversation with her family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Hart’s at the Cupola with the Reverend Julian Pittman officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.

Mrs. Davidson epitomized the self-made woman. Born in Hazelhurst, Ga., and raised in Macon, she started as a receptionist at a mortgage company and worked her way up in the home mortgage business until she opened her own successful mortgage company, Georgia Residential Mortgage, in Macon.

While cultivating her career, she raised two daughters, Jennifer and Rachel. Growing up, day-to-day life for daughters Jennifer and Rachel included lots of laughs, an adherence to schoolwork, a strong fashion sense and the appreciation of a well decorated home, often cleaned by all three ladies during long and loud afternoons. Those cleaning sessions saw the usually well-dressed and professional Mrs. Davidson wearing a blue bandana and singing along to the songs of Jim Croce.

As her daughters grew, she met and married Billy Davidson and joined families with his two children, Will and Paige. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson shared a love of golf and entertaining family and friends at their home on the banks of the Ocmulgee River.

When her grandchildren were born, Mrs. Davidson was dubbed “Twirl,” a twist on her name Shirley, by her nine grandchildren.

Shirley Davidson is survived by her husband, Billy; her daughters, Jennifer Ross and Rachel Krause (Tom); her stepson Will Davidson (Amy); her stepdaughter Paige Garvin (Ken); her nine grandchildren, Alden, Madelyn and Peyton Krause, Win, Web and Whit Davidson, and Mac, Marshall and Mason Garvin; her mother, Margie Harrell; her brother, Larry Harrell; her sisters, Anne Pryor and Margie Horton; and several nieces and nephews.
