Sherry Haizlip, 68, of Macon passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sherry’s honor to the Beverly Knight Children’s Hospital.
Sherry was born in Jacksonville, Florida June 20, 1952 to the late George William Cone, Jr. and Ellie Ursula Anne Elizabeth Meyer. She is survived by her husband of forty years, David Mark Haizlip; one sister, Lori Stanton (Frank) of Ponte Vedra, Florida; and nephew Kyle Stanton. Sherry was preceded in death by her stepson, David Haizlip.
Sherry and Mark were married at the Georgia Baptist Hospital Chapel. Sherry graduated and held degrees from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing, The Medical College of Georgia, and the Georgia College and State University. She was a dedicated nurse, who not only cared deeply for her patients, but also for the nursing staff that she worked with. She was a devoted mentor to those around her. When she wasn’t working, Sherry enjoyed watching and reading mystery novels, especially those by her favorite author, John le Carré, who passed away the same day as Sherry. Sherry also enjoyed traveling the world with Mark.
“The Other Lady of the Lamp”
All nurses know the story of the lady and the lamp. We aspire to fill those Nightingale shoes; our hearts bear her distinct stamp.
In Florence’s revered foot steps, our Sherry chose to tread. She began her vocation as a Candy Striper, filling pitchers and making beds.
She journeyed on to Atlanta, to Georgia Baptist School of Nursing; she learned the skills of the very best, excellent care she began dispersing.
Sherry ministered in different settings, inpatient to the Bloodmobile. She knew it wasn’t just what she did, but how she made them feel.
In a stroke of the very best of luck, to Macon Sherry came. She hit the ground running at MCCG, in education she made her name.
For decades her lamp has been burning, a different type of light; all forms of knowledge, best practice, and skills, a beacon shining bright.
The jingle of her Pandora charms, the clicking of her pen; the smell of Starbuck’s coffee, Sherry’s here – let the learning begin!
We love her for her colorful calendars, and cheery Vera Bradley purses. Thank you, Sherry, for your beautiful light, and for making us the best of nurses.
We love you so much,
Leslie, Donna, Michelle, Beth, Kati and Lesley.
