Sarah C. Appling

Sarah C. Appling passed away July 20, 2012. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family will greet friends Sunday, July 21 from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola.

Sarah Jane Copeland was born in Oneonta, Alabama in 1927 to her late parents Dewey and Keith Copeland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Joe H. Appling, Sr. She is survived by her two children, Joe H. Appling, Jr. (Lu) and Susan A. Kaczmarek (Mike). She also is survived by two granddaughters, Southerly Appling Stickler (Daniel) and Sarah Lucille Kaczmarek and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Leigh Stickler. She is survived by three step-grandchildren, Scott Kaczmarek (Susan), Andrew Kaczmarek (Lisa), Kevin Kaczmarek (Kelli) and five step-great-grandchildren, Russell, Olivia, Jacob, Madison, and Gavin. Sarah leaves behind her sister of Gadsden, AL, Stella Gregory and her brother of Macon, Arnold Copeland (Doris). Her brother Billy Copeland of Macon preceded her in death. Sarah graduated from Susan Moore High School in Blountsville, AL. She married Joe Appling on November 17, 1951 in Snead, AL. They moved to Macon, GA in 1954. She worked at the Cancer Clinic at the Macon Hospital. She owned and/or operated three day care centers for a total of 39 years; AAAA Day Care Center, Wesleyan Day Care Center, and Macon College Day Care Center. Over the years she was a member of Grantwood Garden Club, Quota International and Money Makers Investment Club. Sarah was a member of Martha Bowman UMC, United Methodist Women and Roberta Gardiner Circle. She also volunteered at the church nursery, vacation bible school and delivered sermon tapes for many years to the homebound. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, sister, friend and caretaker of children for all of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Point Hospice and The League of Good Samaritan at Magnolia Manor. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
