Sara Griffin Perkins Landry died Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Peter Claver with Father Dan Ter Melaba officiating. Burial will be private. A native of Thomaston, Georgia, Mrs. Landry was the daughter of the late John Carl and Thelma Abercrombie Griffin. She was the widow of Thomas Leonard Perkins and George Landry. After twenty-three years of service with the Social Security Administration, Mrs. Landry attended Wesleyan College and became a magna cum laude graduate. She later earned a master's degree from Mercer University. Sara organized the Foster Grandparents of Bibb County and served as its director for three years. Later she was twice President of the advisory council on which she served until her death. During a fifty plus year association with the American Cancer Society, Mrs. Landry was an active member of its Board of Directors, recipient of the 1986 volunteer of the year award, and dedicatee of the 1991 Rose Ball. Sara was a past president of Meals on Wheels Bibb County and the American Association of University Women. She also served as a board member or in another capacity of Macon Little Theater, Civic Women's Club, Democratic Women, League of Women Voters, Historic Macon and Friends of the Library. She was extremely proud to have been recognized as Cherry Blossom Senior Queen and Fred Manget award recipient for service to seniors. Wesleyan College gave her its Distinguished Alumna Award for Community Service in 1996. A devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she served in many volunteer capacities for it as well. Survivors include a son, Thomas Leonard Perkins, Jr. (Eden); two grandsons, Thomas Griffin Perkins (Jamie) of Austin, Texas and Benjamin Mason Perkins (Sally) of Savannah; four great-grandchildren and fourteen beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Thelma Timley, Lily Shockley, and Viola Davison for their loving and compassionate care.
