Sara Frances Bowles Wicker

Sara Frances Bowles "Sally" Wicker, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 24, 2017, at Hart's Mortuary Jones County Chapel, with the Reverend Deborah Wallace officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at Cedar Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203 or Homestead Hospice 500 Osigian Blvd., Suite 300, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. Mrs. Wicker was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Robert Wicker and her brother, Jesse Groover Bowles, Jr. She was born in Randolph County Georgia to Bart Swan Bowles and Jesse Groover Bowles, Sr. of Baconton, Georgia where she grew up. Mrs. Wicker graduated from Camilla High School and received a BS degree in Education from Georgia State College for Women now Georgia College and State University. Upon graduation, she taught Home Economics at Porterdale High School. She married and moved to Jones County, raised her girls, then taught at Gray Elementary for twenty-four years. She was a lifelong member of Haddock United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was president of the Haddock School PTA, president of the Jones County Education Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional association. She served as secretary and Regent of the Oliver Morton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Wicker is survived by her children, Martha Newberry (Lloyd), Sally Brown (Hoyt), and Nancy Ellspermann (Lenny); grandchildren, Wyck Newberry (Marcy), Sam Newberry (Sara, fiancé), Brooke Ragan (Jeremy), Hoyt Ellspermann (Julie), Robert Ellspermann (Amanda); great grandchildren, Samuel Newberry, Camdyn Newberry, Robert Newberry, Alexander Newberry, Reid Ragan, Kendall Ragan, Carter Ellspermann, Claire Ellspermann, Caroline Ellspermann; nephew, Jesse Bowles, III (Judy), niece, Betsy Chastain (Ricky). The family acknowledges with grateful appreciation the care given by Dr. Linda Arnold, and caregivers: Vangular Johnson, Rosebud Fluellen and Ann Pope. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
