Sandra Korbol Small, 82, of Macon, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She was born on January 6, 1944, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to the late Inga Hatland Korbol and Clifford Oscar Korbol.
As the daughter of a United States Air Force colonel, Sandy spent much of her early life traveling. Before settling in Georgia, she lived in Oklahoma, Germany, Montana, Washington, California, Illinois, Washington, D.C., Alabama, the Azores, Maryland, and her favorite, Hawaii.
She graduated from Surrattsville High School in Maryland in 1962 and went on to attend Wesleyan College in Macon, where she studied psychology. During her freshman year, she met her husband, George R. Small, and they were married in 1965. She graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to build a career as a social worker with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, where she served until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Small. She is survived by her son, Clifford “Rusty” Small (Beth) of Gray; her daughter, Inga Ratliff of Macon; her grandson, River Ratliff of Macon; her sister, Shelley K. Strickland of Warner Robins; her niece, Stacey Strickland Heald of Warner Robins; and her nephew, Josh Strickland of Warner Robins.
