Sandra Pierce Powell

Sandra Pierce Powell, 77, of Gray, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 30, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Sandra was born in Tryon, North Carolina, on May 24, 1949, to the late Clarence Thompson and Winnie Greene Thompson. She graduated from Tryon High School in North Carolina and worked for many years at her family-owned business, Pierce One Stop in Columbus, North Carolina. In January 2024, she moved to Gray to be closer to her daughter.

Sandra enjoyed latch-hooking pictures and was affectionately known as the “Bingo Queen.” She also enjoyed leading devotions at Lynn Haven, where she shared her faith with others.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lynn Pierce Merritt (Mell) of Gray, Georgia; son, Nickey Pierce (Monica) of Columbus, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Lauren Dunn, Tyler Tibbetts (Alayna), Joshua Tibbetts (Ansley Griffith), Jacob Tibbetts (Haley), Britney Trull (Michael), and Justin Pierce; five great grandchildren: Anna Robyn Dunn, Tate Tibbetts, Benny Rose Tibbetts, Wyatt Trull, and Annsley Trull.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Barbara Ann Pierce, two brothers, and two sisters.
