Ruth Hope Goad Watt

Ruth Hope Goad Watt, age 101, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held on September 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road with Dr Joey Ellis officiating. Burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service.

Ruth was born on December 20, 1924 in Mt. Airy, NC to James Moir Goad and Ada Estella Hawks Goad. She grew up in Mt. Airy and Rural Hall NC. She was raised in the Moravian Church where the Christmas Lovefeast and the Easter sunrise service held a special place in her Christian faith. She became a registered nurse in 1945 and served as an Army Cadet nurse at Lawson General in Atlanta GA during WWII where she cared for amputee war patients. After the war ended she was a pediatric nurse in Charlotte NC where she met her husband Edwin Glenn Watt and they married there in March 24, 1948.

In 1955 they moved to Jacksonville, FL where they raised their three daughters. Ruth attended Arlington Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women of the Church, Chancel Choir and many Bible studies. In the community she was active in the Arlington Garden Club where she won numerous awards for flower arranging, Jacksonville Ballet Guild, Board of Elections, numerous Chorale groups and enjoyed being a Wedding Planner.

In 1977 they were transferred to Macon, GA where they were active members of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Emmanuel Church and later Stone Edge Church.

She was married for 67 years to the late Edwin Glenn Watt. Survivors include her three daughters Susan Cable (Paul), Janice Green (Robert) and Betsy Bier (late Doug Bier) all of Macon GA. She is “Nonnie” to her seven surviving grandchildren Payton Churchwell (Jason), Erin Lewis (TR), Betsy Norwood (Lee), Tyler Bier (Melissa), Alex Bier (AnnaBelle), Nathan Bier (Erin), Anna Ellington (Lucas),and the late Shane Green (Viviana) and to her 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wants to thank Renee Moncrief, Sheryl Bloodworth and Traditions Health for her care while she resided in her home until she was 100 years old and to Affinis Hospice and the loving, wonderful staff at Zebulon Park Health & Rehabilitation that made her last 18 months content and happy.
