Ruth Asbell Daniels Macon- The Sons of Clora Ruth Asbell Daniels announce the death of their beloved mother, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. Ms. Ruth was the daughter of Lucian Z. and Clora Lee Asbell of Jeffersonville. Ruth was "the twin" and the last in the birth order of six brothers and one sister who preceded her in death. They are in birth order; Oscar Lucree & William Lucian of Macon, George Lee of James, Cecil Lanier (Pete) of Jeffersonville, Sara A. Thomaston, James Franklin, and her twin Lucian Roy Asbell all of Macon. Mom was the widow of our father John W. Daniels, Jr. of Hawkinsville after fifty-eight years of marriage. They are survived by their sons Rev. John Dennis Daniels Sr. (Ginger) of Madison, MS; Ronald Dale Daniels (Anita) of Farmville, VA.; Levi Daryl Daniels (Robin) of Fayetteville, GA, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Ruth was a graduate of Twiggs County High, Kaigler Business College, and Dudley Hughes School of Cosmetology. She was a long time member of Morningside Baptist Church having taught Immediate Girls for many years. After high school in the 1940's, she played basketball & softball with several traveling teams in a league of their own, and continued to play church league softball as a shortstop well into her sixties. She faithfully supported her husband and her children in all activities from Baconsfield Pool to Ocmulgee Little League where she was the ultimate Little League Mom, class parent, Sunday school teacher and coach. Mother always displayed a wonderful ‘clown' sense of humor; she could be the mirror of Lucy. She could out camel walk anyone, and as grandmama was not afraid of skates, scooters, or skateboards even when they took her to the hospital on Christmas Day! After Dad's death, she moved to the Cottages on Wesleyan where she enjoyed many new friendships and continued her crazy frog collection. She kept the line scores for each televised Braves Games and had the joy of attending games in Atlanta and the Mississippi Braves farm club in Jackson. She will be remembered for the sunshine she brought to a gathering and for her wonderful chicken and dumplings. Memorials should be made to your church or charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 11:30AM, at Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, GA with the Reverend John Dennis Daniels, Sr. officiating.
