Ruth Elizabeth Bernhardt George

Ruth Elizabeth Bernhardt George passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011. Ruth was born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada on October 2, 1917 to Edward G. and Mary Ann Tilt. She is predeceased by her first husband, G. Robert Bernhardt; brother, Francis Gorman Tilt and second husband, William Mose George.

Ruth lived in Atlanta for 25 years where she was a Bridal Consultant and Assistant Buyer for Davidson's Department Store, a real estate agent and broker. After moving to Macon in 1978, she became a member of Christ Church where she assisted with their Meals-on-Wheels program. Ruth was also a member of Idle Hour Ladies Golf Association and member of the Daughters of the British Empire. She enjoyed bridge, golf and traveling but most of all her family.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Wendy Johnson and husband Dr. Emory Johnson; three granddaughters, Caroline Feller and husband Doug, Meg Sutherland and husband Andrew, Rebecca Lee and husband Wayne; seven great grand-children; our dear Canadian Rapley family; step-children, Betty Meadors and husband Gary, Dr. Bill George, and Len Ciaravella and husband Jim; eight step-grandchildren; and caregiver and loving companion Janice Gail.

Visitation with the family will be held at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peak Road, on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 4:00-6:00PM. Burial will be private to family, followed by a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church, Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11:00AM with the Reverend Harriette Simmons officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 538 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201, or Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
