Russell Findley

Russell Findley, 89, of Macon, passed away January 2, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 with Reverend Dr. Mike Johnston officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the charity of donor's choice. Russell was born on March 14, 1928 in Millen, Georgia, the son of Claude E. Findley and Thelma Day Findley. He attended Uvalda Elementary School and Brewton-Parker High School in Mount Vernon, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Business with a major in accounting. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Russell was employed by Georgia Power Company, where he held several positions, retiring after 39 years as Macon Division Accounting Manager. He was an active member of Vineville Baptist Church. He also was a member of Middle Georgia Wood Workers Association, and prior to retirement, was very active in the United Way and the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, where he was an honorary life member. He organized and was the first president of the Middle Georgia Coin Club, and was an avid gardener. Russell was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Catherine Rousseau Findley, their daughter, Metta Findley Sellier and his sister, Dorothy F. Morris. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Weatherford Findley; his beloved granddaughter, Heather S. Holman(Alex); four great grandchildren, Tyler, Catherine, Matthew and Tucker; brother, Ernest (Jeanne) Findley of Atlanta, Georgia; three step-children, Allen L. Rowell (Janet), Athens, S. Leslie Rowell (Jennifer), Peachtree City, Valerie R. Johnston (Mike), Anderson, South Carolina; step-grandchildren Taylor, Dean, and Laura Rowell and Cooper Johnson, and Blake Johnston.
