Ruby Jo Argo, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted activist and advocate for the well-being of all children, died on June 16, 2014. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Carlyle Place. Funeral services will be held at Ingleside Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 3:00PM, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Bill and Layle Argo, 262 Country Club Road. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, Georgia, 31210, or Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210. Mrs. Argo was born in Uvalda, Georgia on July 14, 1926 to the late Ruby Anderson Wolfe and the late Jo Henry Wolfe. She moved to Macon with her family and graduated from A.L. Miller High in 1941 and from Mercer University in 1945 where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Argo was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Argo, Sr; brother, Steve Wolfe; and sister, Jackie W. Faulkner. Mrs. Argo was a retired teacher having taught for 43 years in Macon public schools, Stratford Academy, and Tattnall Square Academy. She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She served as Director of the Junior Department, Sunday School teacher, and as the first Director of Recreation. In 1955, Mrs. Argo was one of the initial chairpersons of the Bibb Polio Committee. For many years she organized Red Cross Blood Drives in local high schools and volunteered at the Special Olympic Games. Mrs. Argo was elected President of North Woods Garden Club, Macon Junior Women's Club, and Chi Omega Alumni Association. She was a member of the Macon Exchangette Club. Mrs. Argo received service awards from Kids Yule Love, Special Olympics, and Tattnall Square Academy Key Club. She also found time to work with the Girl Scouts and the heart, cancer and leukemia neighborhood drives. Mrs. Argo was honored by the faculty of Tattnall Square Academy when, upon announcement of her retirement, the Ruby Jo Argo Humanitarian Award was created to be given each year to the graduating senior who most exemplified Mrs. Argo's devotion to service and commitment to people in need. Mrs. Argo is survived by her son, Dr. William V. Argo, Jr. (Layle); daughter, Donna Argo-Lumpkin (Jimmy); grandsons, William V. Argo, III (Madison), Thatcher Watson Argo (Emmy), and James Anderson Lumpkin; and great grandson, William Hinson Argo, all of Macon.
