Roy was born January 17, 1946 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Roy and Jewel Brannon. He was an outstanding student and excelled in athletics. Roy was proud to play for the Coyotes at Wichita Falls High School and even had his picture hanging in a local pizza restaurant.

Roy received his Bachelor of Science degree from Midwestern University in 1968, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He then received his MBA from Texas Tech University in 1973, and later attained the rank of Captain while serving in the United States Army. After his service, he primarily worked for two companies during his career in finance: Caterpillar and GE Capital, retiring from both. Roy met the love of his life and his devoted wife, Dianne Darden, in Dallas, Texas. They wed on May 28, 1977 and were married for just shy of 47 years. Their son, Alex, joined the family in 1985. As a family, they spent many years in Dallas and Plano, Texas before moving to Macon, Georgia.

Roy was a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church in Macon where he was an active member of the Francis Asbury Sunday school class.

Always a lover of animals, Roy enjoyed and cared for many pets over the years. He was also fond of the great hits of Willie Nelson and cheering on the Texas Tech football team.

Roy is survived by his wife Dianne Brannon; son Alex Brannon; and his brother Robert Brannon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jewel Brannon; his sister Dorothy Cash; and his brother-in-law, Bob Cash.
