Rosanne Freeman Rose, age 90, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, in a local care facility after a brief illness.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Rosanne was born on April 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Jesse Jackson and Beulah Townsend Freeman. She graduated from Rome High School as salutatorian in 1953 and later, in the mid-1970's, from the former Floyd Junior College where she earned her Associate's Degree in Deaf Education. Rosanne was extremely proficient in deaf interpretation and utilized her education as an interpreter and voluntary teacher at West Rome Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member for 30+ years. In addition to interpreting for the church's deaf community, she was a devoted Sunday School teacher and Alto in the church's choir. To say that she was faithful would be an understatement. Along with her husband, Jerry, she actively strove to share her faith with whomever she encountered. More importantly, she passed on this strong faith foundation to her three sons and other family members and friends. Rosanne’s life revolved around serving her Lord and her family and nothing brought her more joy on earth than being a Wife and Mother. She was a passionate reader and spent many hours at the Rome Library. She loved cooking, gardening, crocheting, writing poetry, working crossword puzzles, playing dominoes, and making personal greeting cards. In addition to her husband, parents, and oldest nephew, Mark Cole, she was preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who had a great impact on her life.
Rosanne is survived by her three sons and spouses, Michael Jerome (Susan) of Canton, GA, Joel Woodard (Michael) of Rome, GA, and Matthew Jesse (Mary Bennet) of Macon, GA; one beloved sister, Linda Conley, and her husband, Gary, of Eatonton, GA; one sister-in-law, Julie Johnson, of Rome; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Michael (Holly), Jon Austin (Lauren), Mary Bennet Dunwody II, and Matthew Freeman Rose, Katelyn Michele (Steven) Margherio, Kayla Miranda (Robert) Sewell, Matthew Spencer (Mary) and Charles Benjamin (Tiffany) Agee; 11 great-grandchildren, Theo, Alyssa, Miranda, Jesse, Elliot, Alora, Luke, Forrest, William, Allexia and Hunter. Nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends also survive.
Funeral services for Rosanne Freeman Rose will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:30pm at the Pavillion of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Rome, Georgia. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the family plot. Afterwards, the family will gather at the home of Joel and Michael, 2658 N. Broad St. Ext. N.E., Rome, GA 30161.
