Ronnie William Nichols

On a hot summer day, Wednesday, August 6, 1952, Ronnie William Nichols took his first breath. On Sunday, June 28, 2026, he took his last.

After birth, he was adopted by Rufus and Dollie Nichols. They loved and nurtured him and brought him up in the admonition of the Lord at Hardie’s Chapel Church of Christ where he was a member for all his days.

Ronnie graduated from Jones County High School in 1970. He then graduated from air conditioning and refrigeration school at Macon Tech in 1971. He retired from Central State Hospital in Milledgeville in 2001, having worked there since 1972.

By his own admission, June 19, 1982, was the happiest day of his life. This was his wedding day to Jenny.

He accounts the second happiest as February 27, 2021. This was the first of three meetings, getting acquainted with the three siblings he knew nothing about growing up. Through DNA technology, he learned of siblings he always wanted to have because he was an only child growing up.

Ronnie is predeceased by his loving adoptive parents, Rufus and Dollie Nichols; his biological father, Bobby Hurt, Sr.; his son, Jim Geiger; and his sisters, Sylvia Nichols, Cathy Asbell, Cindy Herrington, and Debbie Lamb.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Virginia “Jenny” Nichols; his sister, Linda Knowles (Raymond); his brother, Bobby Hurt Jr. (Laura); his grandsons, Chad Geiger and Evan Smith; his great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Compassus Hospice, especially Jennie Erickson, Erica Glover, and Clemons Nicholls, who treated the Nichols like family since day one and gave excellent care.

The family will greet friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00am, at Hardie’s Chapel Church of Christ, 100 Hardie Chapel Lane (Hwy 18 East), Gordon, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
