Ronald Coleman Bloodworth, M.D. died Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Dr. Bloodworth was a Macon native and son of the late Tyrus Coleman Bloodworth and Grace Hardaway Bloodworth. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1956, from Mercer University cum laude in 1960 and the Medical College of Georgia in 1963 with an internship at Macon Hospital. In over forty years of practice, Dr. Bloodworth's many positions included service in the United States Navy as a flight surgeon on the USS Shangri-LA, as chief psychiatry resident at Grady Hospital, establishing a substance abuse treatment center at Greenville Health Center, Director of the Psychiatric Institute of Atlanta, Director of Neuropsychiatry at Charter-By-The Sea, Director of Psychiatry at Searcy Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Mercer Medical School. He was a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was elected as one of America's top psychiatrist. Dr. Bloodworth was an avid sailor, racer, scuba diver and underwater photographer. Shakespeare and reading were passions, as well as travel and the arts. His love of medicine was more than an art or science; it was a dedicated way of life. Dr. Bloodworth is survived by his wife, Sue Bloodworth; son, Ronald and wife Lisa Coleman Bloodworth, Jr.; step-daughter, Deanna Rilling. His daughter, Dana Ashley Bloodworth, predeceased him in 2015. Services will be private.
