Roland Dixon, 73, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on April 28, 1952, to the late Bessie Mae and Charlie Dixon, Roland lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
Roland proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant after a distinguished career. Following his military service, he continued to serve his community through his work with the U.S. Postal Service, where he also retired.
A gifted athlete, Roland played professional basketball in Germany and participated in exhibition games in the NBA with the Washington Bullets. In addition to his basketball career, he was also an amateur bodybuilder, devoted to fitness and maintaining his impressive physique throughout his life. His discipline, determination, and passion for sports were evident in all he pursued.
Outside of his professional life, Roland found joy in restoring classic Chevrolets, spending time at the gym, and sharing his love of basketball with others. Above all, Roland’s greatest pride and joy was his family.
He is survived by his brothers, Willie and Ernest Dixon; sister, Carolyn Carter; daughter, Jeannie Piljanovic (Ivica); his son, Rolando Dixon (Kelsey); and his beloved grandchildren, Iva, Mara, Lila, and Parker. Though his daughter and her family reside in Germany, Roland made it a priority to visit them every year, cherishing every moment spent with those he loved most.
Roland’s steadfast spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
