Rodney Wayne Floyd, 72, died on Friday, September 30, 2011 following a long and valiant fight against his illness. Mr. Floyd was born November 6, 1938, in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. A 1955 graduate of Crosby High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, at Mississippi Southern College (Now the University of Southern Mississippi). He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honorary Society, Circle K Service Club, Wesley Foundation and Student Christian Federation. In 1961 he enlisted in the U. S. Army Reserves and served his active duty at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was here that he became interested in a career in the Federal Civil Service. This 30 year career began at the Air Force Warner Robbins Georgia Air Logistics Center. From 1964 through 1973 he was with the Army Missile Command, Huntsville, Alabama, serving as a computer specialist. The Army transferred him to the U.S. Army Information Systems Command, Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he performed as a system engineer on the World Wide Army Automation and Communication Program. AT the time of his retirement in 1991, he was the Systems Engineer for the Army Installation Support Modules Program. While employed with the Civil Service, Mr. Floyd earned the Certificate in Data Processing (CDP), graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College and earned a Masters of Business Administration in Telecommunications Management from Golden Gate University. While residing in Sierra Vista, Arizona, Mr. Floyd was an active member and pianist and choir director at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was an associate faculty member at Cochise College, often teaching math, data processing and business/telecommunications management. He was quite active in various Parent-Teacher groups, Band Parents, and Boy Scouts of America. He was an adult member Boy Scout and served as Scout Master and Troop Committee Chairman. After retiring to Macon, Georgia in 1991, Mr. Floyd, was able to indulge in his love for gardening and took pride and pleasure in his beautiful yard. A lifelong teacher and learner, he continued to use these skills by teaching at Crandall Junior College and at Macon Technical Institute, where he chaired their distance learning committee and managed the Georgia Statewide Academic and Medical System Learning classroom. He was a consultant to Georgia College, Macon Campus. He later taught business computer application in the Division of Business Administration, at both Macon State College and Wesleyan College. He was a faithful member of Vineville United Methodist Church, and was a member of the chancel choir, the Webb Fellowship Class, and was pianist for his Sunday school class. He was a devout Christian and loved to share his musical interest and talent with his church family. Mr. Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Lillian Smith Floyd. His memory will be cherished forever by his wife of 45 years, Mary Jo Porch Floyd of Macon, and his two sons and their families. They are Rodney Wayne Floyd, Jr. (Tara) and William Douglas Floyd (Tracy) and five grandchildren: Ashleigh Michelle Floyd, Rodney Wayne Floyd, III, (Trey), Amy Suzanne Floyd, Christian Henry Floyd, Clara Lillian Floyd, all of Tucson, Arizona. Survivors also include his siblings Lillian Lorraine Swaggart, Hoyt Jennings Floyd(Elizabeth), and Frankie Faye Smith (Buster) all of Gloster, Mississippi. A Celebration of Life will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church on Monday, October 3, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors in the church social hall following the service. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, near Crosby, Mississippi on Wednesday, October 5. Visitation there will be on Wednesday at 10:00AM at Brown Funeral Home, Crosby, Mississippi, with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donation be made to Vineville United Methodist Church Music Ministry, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204 or Hopewell Cemetery, P.O.
