Daughter of the late Walter and Edith Maynard Rugaber, Roberta was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church where she taught several different Sunday School classes, the latest being the Joy Class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving in various roles over the years. Roberta was a long-time member of the Ainsworth Choir (and the heavenly choir sings a bit sweeter now that her soprano voice has joined its ranks!). She also volunteered for Macon Outreach, one of her favorite charitable organizations. For several years, Roberta worked as a school secretary in the Bibb County School System, the most years spent at Central High School.
Her greatest joy in life was being a mother, and then grandmother, and even great-grandmother. She treasured family time – the large get-togethers every year at her home for Thanksgiving, and every summer at Jekyll Island. She displayed for her family a life full of faith and gratitude, and she constantly reminded her children and grandchildren to always trust in the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roy Eugene Johstono, Sr., and sister, Barbara McLaurin.
Mrs. Johstono is survived by her children, Roy E. Johstono, Jr. (May Britt) of Bergen, Norway, Mark Johstono of Macon, Brian Johstono (Jeanine) of Orlando, Florida, Alan Johstono (Liz) of Lake Mary, Florida, and Lisa Huntt (Andy) of Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren, Anna Collins (Keith), Trey Justineau (Amy), Billy Justineau (Jessica), Christopher Lygre (Elisabeth), Tyler Johstono (Nina Correa), Erin Garner (Ryan), Micah Johstono, Daniel Johstono, Alyssa Henderson (Tyler), and Matthew Huntt (Kendall); 3 great grandchildren; brother, Walter Rugaber, Jr. (Sally) of Meadows of Dan, Virginia; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
