Robert "Bob" William Currey, 69, of Macon, passed away on Saturday February 4th. Visitation services will be held Wednesday evening, February 8th at Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. followed by a graveside procession to Macon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Currey was born in Columbus, GA and moved to Asheville, NC shortly thereafter, where he lived with his parents George W. Currey and Marguerite A. Currey and his two brothers, Dan and Rodney. Bob moved with his family to Macon in 1959. Mr. Currey graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in 1966 after which he joined the Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. In his 50 plus years of federal service, Mr. Currey's relentless work ethic kept the antenna and radome measurement ranges at maximum operational capability ensuring maximum operational readiness for the country's warfighter. Mr. Currey unselfishly shared his expert knowledge with many newcomers and became a "go-to" mentor for young engineers entering the Civil Service workforce. Mr. Currey was a member of the Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency where he served as a volunteer for over 40 years. He was an active member of the ARRL Amateur Radio Association continuing the use of his father's license callsign - W4ALQ. Mr. Currey volunteered with Boy Scouts of America Troop 170 at Forest Hills United Methodist Church and he was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Gayle Cloud Currey of Macon and sons Jonathan A. Currey of Lawrenceville, GA, Master Sergeant Gregory W. Currey - USAF of Fort Walton, Beach, FL and Robert M. Currey of Newnan, GA and his wife Christy D. Currey and grandchildren Dickson and Robert. He is also survived by Daniel Currey of Shreveport, LA and his wife Donna Currey and Rodney Currey of Bonaire, GA and his wife, Betsy Currey and brother-in-law Albert Cloud, Jr. of Macon, GA.
