Dr. Robert Benton Styons

Macon-Dr. Robert Benton Styons died Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Services will be held 4:00PM on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Rd, with the Reverend Loran Smith officiating. Visitation will be between 3:00-4:00PM on Saturday before the service at Hart's at the Cupola. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King Blvd, Suite 201, Macon GA 31201.

Dr. Styons was a Professor of History at Macon State College from 1970-1999. He previously taught at Troy State University and the University of Alabama. He graduated from East Carolina University, the University of Alabama, and Georgia State University. Dr. Styons was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Lizella United Methodist Church. Dr. Styons was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Styons and the late Marjorie Mizelle Styons of Jamesville, NC.

Survivors include his wife, of 38 years, Connie King Styons of Lizella; daughter, Jessica Luanne Styons of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Robert Seth Styons (Hope) of Roberta; daughter, Kristen Styons Erkkila (Corey) of Kathleen; daughter, Melissa Gail Styons of Macon; grandchildren, Samuel Benton Styons of Roberta, and Kamryn Laura Anne Erkkila of Kathleen; sister, Anne Edwards (Wilbur) of Williamston, NC; brother, John Wayne Styons (Melba) of Plymouth, NC; brother, Lewis Rayburn Styons (Kitty) of Plymouth, NC; sister, Jane Hill (Harvey) of Boca Raton, FL ; brother, William Turner Styons (Vicki) of Columbia, SC; and brother, Benjamin Charles Styons of Greenville, NC.
