Robert Lee “RL” Chambless (62) was a beloved husband, daddy, papa, fishing buddy and good friend. He passed away Sunday, August 15 after a brief illness.

He was a second-generation painter by trade, passionate hunter, and motorcycle enthusiast. RL and his wife, Elaine, spent 37 years as fishing, camping, and traveling partners. He was a supportive and loving daddy to his four girls, Tabithia (Michael), Stacey (Timmy), Misty (Chad), and Dannie (Eric). RL was promoted to “Papa” in 2001 and has 13 grandchildren including Sierra, Elizabeth, Madison, Ashley, Hunter, Harley, Alli, Abby, Makayla, Harmony, Noah, Isabelle, and Olivia. In May, he was blessed with his first great-granddaughter, Baxlee Jaymes, who he called, “Peanut.” He also leaves behind his two furbabies, Brutus and Lilly.

RL had previous served Jones County as a member of the county Public Works department and was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, August 17 at 2:30pm to celebrate RL’s life at Faith Baptist Church on Jeffersonville Road in Macon. Elaine and the girls will receive visitors beginning at 2:00pm. Following the services, family and friends are welcome to continue the celebration at Elaine and RL’s home of 27 years in Jones County. Flowers can be sent to Hart’s Mortuary in Gray.
