Robert "Bobby" L. Brooks

Robert L. “Bobby” Brooks, 92, of Ivey, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.  A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Macon Memorial Park, with Bobby Nichols officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Bobby spent 71 years of his life being a devoted husband to his late wife, Beatrice “Mama Bea” Brooks.  He was a loving Dad, Pop, and uncle.  A wonderful, selfless man, who will be hugely missed by many.   Bobby was a man of many talents.  He retired after 41 years of service at Engelhard Corporation as a research chemist. Bobby also served as the mayor of Ivey for one term, and was currently on the city council for the last ten years. He was a knife maker, woodworker, and carpenter who loved making cabinets.  He spent time remodeling and building houses with the help of his sons.  Bobby enjoyed playing guitar, going to the beach, and he loved to fish.  On Sundays, you could find him preaching or teaching Sunday School.

Bobby (Pop) will be lovingly remembered by his children, Christy Mills (Phil), of Ivey, Georgia, David Brooks (Jill), of Thomaston, Georgia, Keith Brooks (Charlene), of Ivey, Georgia, Cheri Carlson (deceased husband, William “Chief”), of Vass, North Carolina, and David Bryant (Nikki), of Gordon, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Kristin Nixon (Matt), of Augusta, Georgia, Justin Mills (Maggie), of Milledgeville, Georgia, Josh Mills (Danae), of McPherson, Kansas. Brandon Brooks (Brittany), of Kathleen, Georgia, Tyler Brooks, of Thomaston, Georgia, Chad Brooks (Lainie), of Jefferson, Georgia, Tiffani Loyd (Jason), of Ivey, Georgia, Cole Brooks (Shelly), of Augusta, Georgia, Hunter Brooks, of Milledgeville, Georgia, Shaun Carlson (Caroline), of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Shayne Carlson, of Vass, North Carolina; twenty one great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Gayle Jones (Britt), of Merritt Island, Florida, Evelyn “Becky” Vaughn, of Atlanta, Georgia, Cherie Vaughn, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Pam Steele (Kyle), of Macon, Georgia, and Stephen Vaughn (Heather), of Milledgeville, Georgia.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Beatrice Elizabeth Brooks; parents, Robert Wesley Brooks and Ethel Elizabeth McCook Brooks; sister-in-law, Evelyn “Sissy” Patterson; and son-in-law, Chief Carlson.
