Chief Master Sergeant Robert Kirt King, 93, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, Georgia on June 26, 2016 after his long battle with cancer. Mr. King proudly served his Country in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He received numerous awards and accolades during his years of service and leadership, including The Bronze Star with Valor, The Air Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal, among others. CMSgt King was born in New Britain, CT. on April 25, 1923, one of five children, to parents Robert J King and Mildred (Maher) King. In 1942, he joined the armed forces. Wanting to contribute in a combat role, he was trained as a radio operator and gunner on the B-24 and B-17 aircrafts. He was subsequently reassigned to Army Air Operations. He retired in July 1977, after thirty three years of committed service and leadership, CMSgt King was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a devoted husband and Father. He married Virginia Turner in Atlanta, GA. on March 16, 1957. His loving wife and mother of their four children, remained by his side, through multiple tours of duty and numerous relocations. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Snow (Jim) and Valerie Youngclaus (Daniel); his sons, Robert King, Jr. (Wendy) and Raymond King; his seven grandchildren, Cameron, Katherine, Ashley, Robert, Mason, Madison, and Grace; and brother, Donald R. King. He is preceded in death by his older brother, Raymond King, and his sisters, Betty Foster and Doris Pasteris. A visitation will take place on June 29, 2016 6pm - 8pm at Hart's Funeral Home 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Ga. 31210. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 30, 2016 at 12pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 830 Poplar St., Macon, GA. 31210. The service will be officiated by Fr. Scott Winchel. Burial to follow at 2:30pm at Veterans Memorial Cemetery 2617 Vinson Highway Southeast, Milledgeville, GA. 31210. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Pine Pointe Hospice 6261 Peake Rd., Macon, GA. 31210.
