Robert Ira “Dr. Bobby” Schwartz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and treasured pediatrician, passed away on July 21, 2025, at the age of 94. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hart’s at the Cupola, with Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar officiating. Burial will private at New Sha'arey Israel Cemetery at Rose Hill.

Son of the late Sol Schwartz and Florence Epstein Schwartz, Dr. Bobby was born in Macon on August 25, 1930. He attended Lanier High School, where he excelled as the basketball team captain and most valuable player, leading his team to a state championship victory. He graduated from the University of Georgia, where he served as the captain of the tennis team.

Following his tenure at UGA, Dr. Bobby served his country proudly as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Pursuing his passion for the medical field, he attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and continued training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, where he met his wife.

In 1962, he began a long and rewarding career as a pediatrician, working in private practice alongside his brother, Dr. Larry Schwartz. Dr. Bobby's gentle demeanor and unwavering commitment to the well-being of children earned him the deep respect and gratitude of countless families spanning generations.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Bobby was actively involved in the local community. He was a longtime member of Sha'arey Israel, deeply committed to his faith and the shared values of his congregation. He was an avid golfer and member of the Idle Hour Country Club.

Dr. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Renee Stencel Schwartz of Macon; children, Robin Schwartz Balser of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Steven Schwartz of Roswell, Georgia, and Leslie Schwartz of Lagrange, Georgia; grandchildren: Seth Balser, Jake Balser, Sam Balser, Sydney Edelson, Molly Edelson, Ava Edelson, and Matthew Andrews; sister, Gloria Schwartz Brody of Macon; sister-in-law, Edith Wasden Schwartz of Macon; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Bobby was preceded in death by his siblings: Stuart Schwartz, Larry Schwartz, Bert Schwartz, and Roslyn Schwartz.
