Robert Joel Harrington

August 12, 1945 — October 25, 2025

Macon

Robert Joel Harrington entered the presence of his Savior October 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00am, in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street, with Pastor Lewis Cooper officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation from 10:30am to 11:00am, before the service.

Bob was born August 12, 1945, in Macon, Ga to Fred and Katherine Harrington. He was the youngest of three boys. His brothers Ronnie and Jerry preceded him in death.

Bob graduated from Dudley Hughes High School in 1964 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. He served six years between Active Duty and the Georgia Air National Guard.

After leaving the Service, he worked for American Office Equipment and transitioned to Acme Business Products, where he placed a premium on quality customer service. After his time at Acme, he dabbled in early touch screen computer technology but spent the majority of his remaining professional career installing phone and computer network systems. He was meticulous in his work and enjoyed a job well done.

He served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troup 203, a unique troop specifically for young men with intellectual disabilities. He had the privilege of overseeing 8 men who earned the rank of Eagle Scout in December 1985. In 1986 Bob was awarded the Scout’s highest local council level award, the Silver Beaver in recognition of years of dedicated service to Troup 203.

To know Bob was to know how deeply he loved his family. He was proud beyond words of his son and found his purest joy in his grandchildren and great-grandsons. He always looked forward to visiting his adopted family at Del’s Automative in Macon. Del and Angie Outlaw and John Gay were true family, evidenced by his official Uncle Bobby jacket gifted to him. It was his prized possession.

Bob was a humble man who loved his family and friends. He was compassionate, generous, and always ready to lend a helping hand. If you were blessed to be his friend, you were blessed beyond measure.

He is survived by his son, Jay Harrington (Melanie), his grandchildren: Maggie Moodie (Avery), Alexander Harrington (Kara), Katherine Harrington, Jessie Warstler (Connor), and his great-grandsons; Maverick and Oliver Moodie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made on Bob’s behalf to Unity Baptist Church’s Abba’s Home Orphanage Fund.
