Robert Earl "Bob" Henderson

Robert Earl "Bob" Henderson died in his home in Macon, surrounded by his family, on May 1, 2015, due to a long illness. He was 87. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with the Reverend Karl Hunter officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineville Baptist Church Ministry of Music, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204. Mr. Henderson was born on August 8, 1927 to Leonard and Vickie Tompkins Henderson in Dublin, Georgia. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1945 and later attended Brewton-Parker College. He served in the 388th Military Police Service Battalion, Army of Occupation, Germany from 1946 - 1947. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1983, after working there thirty-two years, including sixteen years with the Railway Post Office and many years as a rural mail carrier. Mr. Henderson was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Vineville Baptist Church where he formerly sang tenor in the Sanctuary Choir, Vineville Voices, and V-Men. He and his wife also formerly taught Sunday school in the pre-school department at Vineville Baptist Church. He was an avid historian and was fiercely proud of his Scottish and Southern heritages. He was the family historian and an intriguing storyteller. Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Grace Coleman Henderson of Macon; four daughters, Wanda Westmoreland of Macon, Charlotte Bearden (Billy) of Macon, Beth Hunter (Karl) of Pulaski, Virginia, Robin Townsend (Henry) of Brunswick, Georgia; and one son, Mark Henderson (Sheila) of Macon;eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Kate Gore and Dorothy Morgan; and his brothers, Bill and Harold Henderson. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
